Wilcox Clan of Dutchess County, New York

Alan Wilcox is presently coordinating research into the Wilcox families who were living in Dutchess County, New York, generally during the period prior to the 1790 census.  It is believed that some of these Wilcox men eventually removed to Minisink, while others eventually removed to the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania.

Wilcox Clan of Minisink, Orange Co., New York

Ron Benson is presently coordinating research into the Wilcox families who were living in Minisink, New York at the time of the 1790 census.  There were four Wilcox families enumerated in Minisink at that time, although one was a son of another, so there were three families headed by men who were contemporaries of one another (Amos Wilcox, Hezekiah Wilcox, and Thomas Wilcox).

As will be shown below, by comparing the number of male and female members of each of these families from census to census along with identifying the sons of each Patriarch who appear in a subsequent census, we are able identify the likely number of sons and daughters in each family and an approximate range for their birth year.  Using this information, in addition to probate and land records, we have been able to correct previous errors, especially in regard to the children of Amos Wilcox and Hezekiah Wilcox, as well as suggest the likely given names for the children of Thomas Wilcox.
